He has confirmed himself as a major force within the world of sprinting.SPORT BIOMark Lewis-Francis came to international prominence in 2000 when he withdrrew from the GB Olympic Team and decided to concentrate instead on the World Junior Championships, where he duly won Gold in 10.12 and in the 4x100m team. That year he also ran a world best by a 17yr old in winning the B race for 100m at the London Grand Prix.At the World Indoors in Lisbon 2001, he set succesive British junior records in the 60m. Later that year, he won the European Cup and then won double gold at the European Juniors.In 2002 Mark qualified for the Commonwealth Games with a PB of 10.07. He then beat Olympic Champion Maurice Greene and then broke his PB again in theParis Golden Legue. He later claimed his first senior national title at the AAA's and European Championships. Mark qualified for the Commonwealth Games final but was forced to pull up whilst leading the race.At the World Indoor Championships in 2003 Mark just missed out on a medal finishing 4th. He qualified for the Olympic Games in Athens along with Jason Gardener and Darren Campbell. Unfortunately he missed out on the final in the 100m but claimed a fantastic gold medal as he anchored the men's 4x400m GB team to a historic victory over the USA.He beat Maurice Greene again in 2005 in the GB v USA match in Glasgow and finished second at the European Cup. At the European Championships in Gothenburg 2006 he finished 5th in the final but anchored the 4x100m team to a fantastic gold medal.
