Although coming on leaps and bounds that year, never in his wildest dreams did the Welshman believe he would stpe America's Ralph Boston from retaining his title. He had just qualified on his last jump for the final and thus went in a fortunate man - very fortunate as events turned out because the weather was very 'British' in Japan for the final. It was very wet and windy and Davies took full advantage, saving his winning leap to his fifth round when the wind momentarily died down. He cleared 8.07 metres the biggest jump of his career and claimed the gold medal. In 1966 he also claimed a gold medal at the European Championships, beating his great Soviet rival and took the Commonwealth title that same year.At Mexico in 1968 unfortunately he could not emulate what he had achieved four years previously but at the following years's European Championship he lept his Olympic-winning distance to finish second.Lynn's last championship medal came came at the 1970 Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh where he took the gold medal for Wales with a leap of 8.06m, thus retaining the title he had won 4 years earlier.SPECIALIST AREASLynn Davies is still involved in sport as President of UK Athletics and as a man who's achieved the ultimate - Olympic Gold - he understands the dedication, perserverance and commitment that is needed to succedd, not only in sport but in business as well.He has done many motivational talks to companies over the years and knows what it takes to win but also the setbacks that can happen and how to overcome these. He has contributed to a wide range of media articles over the years and is also available for school visits.
